The iPad was one of the first tablet computers on the market and has since evolved into various different generations. There is one thing that has stayed the same on all generations of the iPad: the internet. While some have the optional 3G Cellular data and others have only the Wi-Fi connectivity, there are ways that you can boost your internet speed with little to no effort on your end. Just a few little tweaks can dramatically increase the speed you experience while browsing the web, checking your emails or updating Facebook.

Clear the Cache

Most users do not think to clear out the cache on the iPad because most people do not think of it is a computer. Like a computer, when the cache gets full, the iPad will become slow, just as your computer becomes slow when it is bogged down with cookies. To clear the cache is simple: First, go to settings, scroll down until you get to Safari. Touch Safari and then click on “Clear Cookies and Data.” If you want to take it all the way, you can also click on “Clear History” which will clear out all of the history files that are currently stored.

Disable Open Apps

Open apps will also slow down your iPad’s internet speed. There are many different apps that continually run in the background. Most of these apps take up space while they are running that can slow the processing speed as well as the connection speed of the iPad. To check to see which programs are running, simply tap the home button two times on the iPad. This will bring up all of the applications that are running. You can close the applications you are not using by long pressing on any application which will bring up the close menu. This just adds an “x” to each open application; as you press each x, you close that program. Don’t worry, you are not deleting the program from the iPad, you are simply closing it. Closing the unnecessary programs will bring your internet speed back to where it was when you first opened your iPad.

Take Back Your Memory

One big thing that most iPad users do not realize is that as the iPad memory fills up, the speed slows down, and not just the processor speed as this also affects the internet speed. If you want lightning fast internet speed, then you need to make the most out of your available memory. If you have photos, applications and music that you don’t ever use anymore, delete them and increase your internet speed. For your applications, you can simply delete them from the iPad but for music and pictures, you will want to import them to iTunes on your computer and delete them. This way, if you feel remorse about deleting your favorite song from five years ago, you can easily listen to it on your computer or reinstall it onto your iPad.

We all go through periods of sluggish internet speeds on our iPads but if you pay close attention to your memory, your open applications and your browser cache, you can have lightning fast internet speed.
