Facebook

The mother of all social networks is known for the little prissy dealing with the data of their users. Also, the Facebook app landed in the Stiftung-Warentest investigation in the list of nine “very critical” apps. Nearly 6.6 million people have rated the app in the Play Store with an average of 3.6 stars. If you downloaded the Facebook app, you should be aware of the many privileges aware that the service requires.

Read and modify contacts: The app gets access to the entire address book, but only after approval. That’s when Facebook only necessary if you want to synchronize their mobile contacts with the Facebook account, but not required, to use the app can.

Identify the location via GPS, masts and Wi-Fi: The Facebook app requires its users the permission to determine the location and transfer – who go by posting something whose location is displayed below the post. This feature can be disabled under the “messenger location services” in the app menu.

Retrieving phone state and identity: The Facebook app has access to the phone functions and the unit number. This is basically to Facebook but not necessary, since the app can be installed on multiple devices simultaneously, and thus no clear identification is necessary.

Download files without notification: The app may download files from the Manager, without the user is notified to download. The contacts are added to the cell phone pictures and information from Facebook.

Read and edit call list: The app can call the list and data on outgoing and incoming calls, see, save and share. For the use of Facebook is basically not necessary. Deactivation is still impossible.

Google+

The Google+ app is pre-installed on many Smartphone and automatically connects to the Google account.

Read and modify contacts: The app requires, like all other social apps and accessing the address book. Most Android users have their contacts but probably already synced with their Google Account.

Identify the location via GPS, masts and Wi-Fi: Consists on the use of location data and Google if you use its network app. This is also necessary for some functions such as check-in. You can turn off this feature in the app not, that’s just about the global Android settings.

Retrieving phone state and identity: Again, phone number and device ID are retained and probably continue to be used. What happens to the data is as with the other apps in the dark.

Access to Google Photos Data: The app can read data from photos that are uploaded by the user. In conjunction with account names and places as recording motion profiles can be created. When setting up the app you can choose whether you want to upload pictures automatically to Google+.

Twitter

The short message service had to take criticism in the past over again. Again, it came to dealing with the data of the users. In 2011, reported that Twitter in a big way pass on data to third parties, a year later, news came about that the Twitter user and clicking behavior of its customers and their address books downloading completely and save. In its privacy policies are of service to collect user data and utilize to “continually improve” the own offer and use – in the United States or any other country. Log data stores Twitter for up to 18 months. The official Twitter app was built between 100 and 500 million times downloaded in the Play Store and rated by an average of nearly 820,000 users with four stars. The permissions it requires are similar extensive as the other apps also:

Read and modify contacts: The app requires access to the address book, as it offers the user the first time, to automatically search for friends. If you skipped this step once, you cannot get back there. The function is not accessible from within the app itself, the required access unnecessary.

Location details: Like the other app too, would like to use Twitter and determine the exact location of the user by GPS and network-based. But this can be disabled in the settings within the app.

Read and edit call log: The benefit of this authorization opens up immediately because Twitter actually is not a classical messenger app for direct communication.

Retrieve running apps: WhatsApp How Twitter will also get information on current or recently running applications. The information may be saved to the Twitter servers, along with other data on usage behavior.
